Set Up ecoMain with the
Home Assistant Energy Dashboard
1. Overview
ecoMain integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant's built-in Energy Dashboard, allowing you to monitor your home's energy usage and production in a single, intuitive interface.
By following this guide, you will configure ecoMain to work with the Energy Dashboard and gain access to comprehensive energy monitoring, including:
· Grid import and export
· Solar energy production
· Individual device energy consumption
· Real-time power monitoring
· Daily energy statistics and historical trends
· Energy cost calculation (with optional Nord Pool dynamic electricity pricing)
After completing the configuration, your Energy Dashboard will look similar to the example below:


This guide walks you through the complete configuration process, from connecting the required energy entities to verifying that all data is displayed correctly.
Required Resources
i. ecoMain(1×ecoMain+3×100A Sensor+10×30A Sensor)

2 Before You Start
Before configuring the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard, make sure the following requirements are met.
Prerequisites

Record Your Channel Mapping
Before starting the Energy Dashboard configuration, it is recommended to record which EcoMain channel corresponds to each monitored circuit or device.
The screenshots and examples throughout this guide are based on a single ecoMain installation. Depending on your system, the entity names, channel assignments, and connected devices may differ. During the following steps, you will need to select the entities that match your own ecoMain installation.
Having this information prepared in advance makes the setup much easier and helps avoid selecting the wrong sensors.
The table below shows the channel mapping used throughout this guide.

NOTE:
i. The entity names used throughout this guide are the same as those displayed in the Home Assistant configuration dialogs. If you open Developer Tools → States, the same entities appear as full entity IDs, such as sensor.ecomain_<device_id>_local_main_ch1_power_rt, where <device_id> is the unique serial number assigned to your EcoMain device.
ii. Unless otherwise specified, select the fwd (forward) energy entity throughout this guide. Do not choose the rev entity, as it represents a different measurement and may lead to incorrect energy statistics.
iii. In some installations, a power sensor may report values with the opposite sign because the current transformer (CT) or sensor wiring is installed in the reverse direction. Instead of rewiring the hardware, you can create an Inverted Power Entity to reverse the sign of the power readings directly in Home Assistant.
3 Configure the Energy Dashboard
Step 1 — Connect EcoMain to Home Assistant
Sign in to your Home Assistant instance.
Before connecting your ecoMain device, install the enecess integration. Detailed installation instructions are available in the official documentation below.
ecoMain supports multiple connection methods in Home Assistant. This guide demonstrates the Automatic Discovery (Local) setup process step by step, as it provides the quickest way to prepare your device for the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard.

Once the integration is installed, open Settings from the left-hand navigation panel near the bottom of the sidebar.

Open Devices & Services to manage your Home Assistant integrations.

Find your ecoMain device in the Discovered section and press Add.

Home Assistant will display the detected serial number and IP address.
Verify that the information matches your ecoMain device, then continue by pressing Submit.

If your ecoMain system includes ecoSub modules, Home Assistant will list all detected devices.
Keep the devices you want to add checked, then proceed with Submit.
Systems without ecoSub modules will skip this step automatically.

The Extra Entities page allows you to create additional helper entities, such as aggregated sensors or inverted power sensors.
The Extra Entities page provides optional helper entities that are not required for the initial setup, so simply leave Finish selected and continue.

You can rename devices or assign them to Areas during setup, or simply choose Skip and finish and update them later. Area assignments are only used for organization within Home Assistant and do not affect the Energy Dashboard configuration.

Once setup is complete, your ecoMain and any selected ecoSub devices will appear under Integration entries.

Step 2 — Configure the Basic Energy Dashboard
Now that ecoMain has been successfully integrated into Home Assistant, you can begin configuring the built-in Energy Dashboard.
The following sections will guide you through the required energy sources and power sensors used for energy monitoring.
Open the Energy dashboard from the left-hand sidebar. Then click the Edit button in the upper-right corner to enter edit mode.

Under Grid connections, click Add grid connection.

For Energy imported from grid, search for all and select main_all_energy_fwd_total.

For Energy exported to grid, select main_all_energy_rev_total.
Leave Do not track costs selected for now. Electricity pricing will be added later in this guide.

Scroll to the Type of power measurement section. Select Standard, then choose main_all_power_rt as the Power measurement entity. Click Save to complete the grid connection configuration.

Next, under Solar panels, press Add solar production.

In this example, the solar production is connected to Channel 4 (ch4), so search for ch4 and select main_ch4_energy_fwd_total.
Set Solar production power to main_ch4_power_rt. Keep Don't forecast production, then click Save.

If your system includes a battery storage system, you can also add it in the Home battery storage section by selecting the corresponding battery channel. This guide uses an example system without battery storage, so this step is omitted.
The next step is to add your individual electrical devices.
Press Add device.

Select the energy and power entities for the device.
Channel 5 (ch5) is used for the house load in this example.
Enter House Load as the Display name, then click Save.

Repeat the same process for any additional devices you want to monitor.
For demonstration purposes, Channel 6 (ch6) is connected as EV Charger using the corresponding energy and power entities.
The newly added devices will now appear under Individual electrical devices.
Step 3. Add current price (Optional)
After configuring the energy sources, you can enable electricity cost tracking using the Nord Pool integration.
Return to Settings → Devices & Services, then click Add Integration.

Search for Nord Pool and select the integration from the search results.

Choose the Nord Pool market area that matches your location or the electricity market you want to use.

Select the currency that corresponds to your electricity market, then click Submit.

Return to the Energy dashboard and click Edit in the upper-right corner.
Under Grid connections, click the Edit icon for the existing grid connection.

Select Use an entity with current price, then choose the current price entity provided by the Nord Pool integration.
Click Save to apply the changes.

Export compensation is optional. If your utility provider pays you for electricity exported to the grid, you can assign the appropriate pricing entity here. Otherwise, simply leave the default setting unchanged.
Step 4.Create Additional Entities (Optional)
If multiple ecoMain channels represent the same physical device, you can combine them into a single entity before adding them to the Energy Dashboard.
In this guide, Channels 1–3 are all connected to heat pumps. To simplify the dashboard, these three channels are combined into a single entity so that the total heat pump consumption is displayed and tracked as one device.
If each channel represents a different appliance in your installation, or you prefer to monitor them individually, you can skip this section.
Go to Settings → Devices & Services, then open the enecess integration.

Locate your configured ecoMain device and click the gear icon.

Select Add Sum/Average Entity, then click Submit.

Choose Power as the Source Type, keep Sum selected as the operation, and enter a descriptive name for the new entity.
Tip: A consistent naming convention makes your entities much easier to find later. For this guide, we use Heat Pump_power for the aggregated power entity and Heat Pump_energy for the aggregated energy entity.

Before selecting the channels to combine, uncheck the first selected entity. Then scroll down and select the channels you want to merge.

Repeat the previous steps and choose Add Sum/Average Entity again.

This time, select Energy as the Source Type instead of Power. Keep the operation set to Sum, then enter a name for the new entity.
Scroll down, uncheck the first selected entity if necessary, and then choose the forward (fwd)energy entities for the channels you want to combine, finally submit it.

Return to the Energy dashboard and press the Edit button in the upper-right corner. Click Add device under Individual electrical devices.

Then select the aggregate energy and power entities you created earlier, enter a display name (for example, Heat Pump), and click Save. The combined heat pump consumption will now appear as a single device in the Energy Dashboard.
Step 5. Verify Your Configuration
At this point, your Energy Dashboard should look similar to the example below.

Immediately after setup, it's completely normal for most values to show 0 or for some charts to appear empty. Home Assistant needs time to collect and process energy data. As indicated in the dashboard, it can take up to two hours before new data begins to appear.
Once enough data has been collected, your dashboard will gradually populate with real-time power readings, energy usage, solar production, and device statistics.
Starting on the following day, the dashboard will display a complete day's worth of energy statistics.
The following screenshots below illustrate a fully populated Energy Dashboard after the system has collected sufficient data.





4 Conclusion
Congratulations! Your ecoMain integration is now fully connected to the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard.
With this setup, Home Assistant can automatically monitor your home's energy flow, including grid import and export, solar production, individual device consumption, and electricity costs. As more data is collected over time, the dashboard will provide increasingly valuable insights into your energy usage and help you better understand your home's power consumption.
If your requirements change in the future, you can always return to the integration settings to add aggregate entities, inverted power entities, or additional devices without repeating the entire setup process.
