The Problem: One Site Does Not Always Mean One Panel

Many homes and small commercial sites have more than one distribution panel. The question is not only how to install meters, but how to turn several panels into a clear energy picture that matches the way the customer manages the site.

The Core Idea: One ecoMain System per Panel

For each monitored distribution panel, install one ecoMain and add 0 to 3 ecoSub expansion modules when more branch channels are required. All devices that belong to the same energy dashboard are added under the same Home in the enecess App.

One panel kit: ecoMain + optional ecoSub modules

Each distribution panel is configured as one monitoring system. ecoMain provides the core panel measurement, and ecoSub modules expand the number of branch channels when the panel contains more circuits that need visibility.

  • Use one ecoMain as the core monitor for the panel.
  • Add 0 to 3 ecoSub modules depending on branch-channel requirements.
  • Repeat the same kit for each additional panel in the site.

Practical rule

Use the ecoMain main circuit measurement only when that panel represents a valid grid connection point or an independent non-overlapping feeder for the Home total. For a downstream subpanel that is already included in an upstream panel, leave the ecoMain main circuit unused or exclude it from the Home total, and use its branch channels only.

Supported Multi-Panel Topologies

The same hardware can support different electrical layouts. The important configuration decision is whether each ecoMain main circuit should contribute to the Home total or only provide branch-level visibility.

Multiple incoming grid points in one property

Use this when a home, farm, workshop or small business has independent incoming feeders. Each ecoMain main circuit measures one independent grid connection point, so the App can add those main readings into one Home total. Branch circuits from all panels are shown together as named loads.

This fits a multi-floor shop, office, small building or property site. The upstream Feeder Panel only distributes power. Each downstream panel has its own ecoMain system, and the App combines Feed #1, Feed #2 and Feed #3 into one Home Total view while showing all branch circuits as named loads.

This is common in homes with a garage, outdoor building, HVAC cabinet or extension panel. The Main Panel feed provides the Home Total once. The downstream Sub Panel is already supplied by a Main Panel branch, so its ecoMain system is used for branch-level visibility instead of adding another total feed.

For apartments, rental units or tenant spaces, each subpanel can correspond to a separate Home. The same account can access all Homes, while each Home keeps its own total, branch list and reports for separate metering and management.

How enecess App Organizes the Data

The enecess App uses a clear hierarchy: Account, Home, ecoMain and channels. This hierarchy is what allows multi-panel sites to stay readable instead of becoming several disconnected dashboards.

Configuration Rules Before Installation

Before adding devices to the App, define the measurement boundary. The installer should know which panels are independent incoming feeders and which panels are downstream from another monitored panel.

Use one Home

When several panels belong to the same property and should produce one combined dashboard, such as house + garage + workshop.

Use separate Homes

When buildings, tenants, apartments or cost centers need separate totals, reports or exports.

Count independent feeders

If Panel A and Panel B are independent grid feeders, both ecoMain main readings can contribute to the Home total.

Avoid downstream double counting

If a subpanel is already included in the upstream main panel, do not add its main reading again as a Home total.

Quick setup flow

  • Create or select a Home, such as Home, Store, Workshop or Building A.
  • Add each ecoMain to the Home or to separate Homes according to the metering boundary.
  • Configure branch circuits for each ecoMain, and name them with readable labels such as Heat Pump, EV Charger or Kitchen.
  • Complete the setup for every ecoMain under each Home.
  • Open the energy dashboard to view the selected Home overview, and switch between Homes to check each corresponding dashboard.

What the Customer Sees After Setup

The customer does not need to think in electrical-panel language every day. After setup, the App presents one readable Home energy picture with panel configuration available when needed.

ecoMain A monitors the house feeder and ecoMain B monitors the workshop feeder. Both are added to one Home because the feeders do not overlap. The customer sees one combined Home overview, can swipe between the two ecoMains for configuration, and can compare named house and workshop branches in Trends.

When should multiple ecoMains be added to one Home?

Add them to one Home when the panels belong to the same site dashboard and their main measurements do not overlap, such as a house and a detached workshop with independent feeders.

When should I create separate Homes?

Create separate Homes when the monitored panels represent different households, tenants, cost centers or billing boundaries. One account can still access all managed Homes.

How do you avoid double counting?
