ecoPlug Integration with Home Assistant

ecoPlug brings ordinary plug-in devices into Home Assistant. Turn the plug on or off, see the connected appliance's real-time power demand, and track total energy use from one Home Assistant device page.

Why Use ecoPlug with Home Assistant?

Home Assistant gives open-platform users one place to manage smart devices from different brands. After ecoPlug is added, its plug control and energy information can appear next to the other devices in your home, so you do not need to switch between separate interfaces.

ecoPlug focuses on the three functions that matter most for plug-in devices: switching the plug, checking whether the connected appliance is running, and measuring how much energy that appliance has used over time.

One Plug, Clear Control

Open the ecoPlug device and use the switch under Controls to turn the plug on or off.

See Live Demand

power_rt shows current power, helping you confirm whether the appliance is running.

Track Total Consumption

energy_total records the cumulative energy used by the connected appliance.

Add the Plugs You Need

Select one or more ecoPlug devices during setup. Each selected plug appears as a separate Home Assistant device.

What You Can Control and Monitor

Every plug selected in Select EcoPlug becomes one Home Assistant device. When available, Home Assistant uses the device name assigned in the enecess account, which makes plugs in different rooms or connected to different appliances easier to identify.

Function Displayed in Home Assistant Purpose Normal Example
Plug control Device name and switch under Controls Turn ecoPlug on or off On / Off
Current demand power_rt, W See how much power the connected appliance is using now 125 W
Cumulative consumption energy_total, kWh See total energy used by the connected appliance 8.42 kWh

The switch under Controls and the measurements under Sensors are handled independently. If one type of information is temporarily unavailable, other available functions may continue to appear.

Requirements

Prepare the following before setup:

Item Requirement
ecoPlug Installed, powered and online.
enecess account The ecoPlug has been added to the account you will use.
Home Assistant The Home Assistant server is running and can access the internet.
enecess integration Installed in Home Assistant and updated to a version that supports ecoPlug.
Account credentials Your enecess account username and password are available.

ecoPlug currently connects to Home Assistant through enecess cloud, so both Home Assistant and ecoPlug need a working internet connection. The connected appliance must be suitable for smart-plug switching and must stay within ecoPlug's rated limit of up to 16 A / 3840 W.

Automation Ideas

Once ecoPlug appears in Home Assistant, you can use it as a controllable plug-in load in everyday automations. The most suitable devices are loads that can safely be switched on or off through a smart plug.

Solar Surplus Plug-in Loads

Turn on suitable chargers or small flexible loads when other energy data indicates surplus PV power.

Appliance Monitoring

Use power_rt to check whether a device is currently running.

Energy Awareness

Use energy_total to compare plug-in appliance consumption over time.

Multi-room Control

Add several ecoPlugs and identify each one by its enecess account name.

For whole-home energy monitoring, solar PV, EV chargers, heat pumps and branch circuits, use ecoMain with Home Assistant. For plug-level control and appliance energy measurement, use ecoPlug.

FAQ

Can ecoPlug work as a Home Assistant smart plug?

Yes. ecoPlug can be added through the enecess integration and appears as a Home Assistant device with a plug switch, current power and cumulative energy sensors.

Does ecoPlug currently support local Home Assistant connection?

No. The current Home Assistant integration uses EcoPlug Account Login and accesses the device through enecess cloud.

Why can't I find EcoPlug under Add Device?

Confirm that the enecess integration has been updated to a version that supports ecoPlug. Restart Home Assistant after updating, then open the setup flow again.

Why are no ecoPlug devices available after I sign in?

Confirm that the ecoPlug has been added to this enecess account, that the device is online, and that you signed in with the account that owns the device.

Can I add more than one ecoPlug?

Yes. Select Plugs to Add supports one or more ecoPlug devices. Every selected plug is added to Home Assistant as a separate device.

How do I add or remove ecoPlug devices later?

Open Configure for the corresponding integration entry, update Select Plugs to Add on the Adjust EcoPlug page, and save the selection.

Why is the ecoPlug switch temporarily unavailable?

Check that ecoPlug is online and that Home Assistant can access the internet. The switch may be unavailable when the device is offline, the network is interrupted, or the cloud service is temporarily unavailable.

Why are power_rt or energy_total missing?

Confirm that the ecoPlug is online and has a connected load, then allow time for data to refresh. If control works but measurements remain unavailable, reload the integration and check whether the enecess app can display data for the device.

Can ecoPlug be used for EV chargers, heat pumps or high-power fixed equipment?

Only use ecoPlug with devices that are suitable for smart-plug switching and stay within the product rating. For EV chargers, heat pumps, water heaters or other professional fixed installations, follow the equipment manufacturer's safety requirements and use dedicated control solutions where required.

What is the difference between ecoPlug and ecoMain in Home Assistant?

ecoPlug is for plug-level switching and plug-in appliance energy measurement. ecoMain is for whole-home, solar PV and branch-circuit energy monitoring. Many users can use both: ecoMain for the energy picture, ecoPlug for controllable plug-in loads.
