After ecoMain is connected to Home Assistant, you can configure the Energy Dashboard to show how energy flows through your home or site.

Recommended Channel Mapping

Before starting the Home Assistant configuration, record which ecoMain channel corresponds to each monitored circuit or device. The example below is based on a solar home with heat pumps and an EV charger. Your own channel mapping may be different depending on the installation.

The entity names used in this guide are examples from one ecoMain installation. In Home Assistant Developer Tools, the full entity IDs may include the ecoMain device ID, such as sensor.ecomain_<device_id>_local_main_ch1_power_rt.

Unless otherwise specified, select the fwd energy entity for consumption or production tracking. The rev entity represents reverse energy flow and should only be used when the Energy Dashboard requires exported energy data.

Required Hardware and Software

Before you start, prepare the following:

Firmware Requirement

Home Assistant local integration and Modbus TCP require ecoMain firmware version 136 or later. If your ecoMain is running an earlier firmware version, please update the firmware before starting the integration.

If ecoMain has not been installed yet, follow the ecoMain installation manual before configuring Home Assistant.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Step 1: Connect ecoMain to Home Assistant

Sign in to your Home Assistant instance. Before connecting ecoMain, install the enecess integration. ecoMain supports multiple connection methods in Home Assistant. This guide demonstrates Automatic Discovery using local setup, which is the quickest way to prepare ecoMain for the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard.

Step 2: Add Grid Import and Export

Open the Energy dashboard from the left-hand sidebar, then select Edit. Under Grid connections, select Add grid connection.

For Energy imported from grid, search for all and select main_all_energy_fwd_total. For Energy exported to grid, select main_all_energy_rev_total. Leave Do not track costs selected for now.

Scroll to the Type of power measurement section. Select Standard, then choose main_all_power_rt. Select Save to complete the grid connection configuration.

Step 3: Add Solar PV Production

Under Solar panels, select Add solar production. In this example, solar production is connected to Channel 4. Search for ch4 and select main_ch4_energy_fwd_total. Set Solar production power to main_ch4_power_rt. Keep Don't forecast production selected, then select Save.

If your system includes a battery storage system, you can add it in the Home battery storage section by selecting the corresponding battery channel. This example system does not include battery storage, so this step is omitted.

Step 4: Add EV Charger, Heat Pump and Other Devices

Select Add device, then select the energy and power entities for the device you want to monitor.

For House Load, use main_ch5_energy_fwd_total and main_ch5_power_rt. Repeat the same process for additional devices. For example, Channel 6 is connected to an EV charger using main_ch6_energy_fwd_total and main_ch6_power_rt.

Step 5: Add Electricity Pricing with Nord Pool

After configuring the energy sources, you can enable electricity cost tracking using the Nord Pool integration. Return to Settings, Devices & Services, then select Add Integration. Search for Nord Pool and select the integration from the search results.

Choose the Nord Pool market area that matches your location or electricity market. Select the currency that corresponds to your electricity market, then submit.

Return to the Energy dashboard, select Edit, and open the existing grid connection. Select Use an entity with current price, then choose the current price entity provided by the Nord Pool integration.

Export compensation is optional. If your utility provider pays you for electricity exported to the grid, you can assign the appropriate pricing entity here. Otherwise, leave the default setting unchanged.

Step 6: Create Aggregated Entities for Multi-Phase Devices

Some devices, such as three-phase heat pumps, may use multiple ecoMain channels. You can combine several channels into one aggregated entity before adding the device to the Energy Dashboard.

In this example, Channels 1-3 are connected to heat pumps. To simplify the dashboard, these three channels are combined into one device so total heat pump consumption is displayed and tracked together.

Choose Power as the source type, keep Sum selected as the operation, and enter a descriptive name such as Heat Pump_power. A consistent naming convention makes entities easier to find later.

Repeat the process and choose Energy as the source type. Keep Sum selected, then enter a name such as Heat Pump_energy. Select the forward energy entities for the channels you want to combine.

Step 7: Verify Your Energy Dashboard

At this point, your Energy Dashboard should show the configured energy sources and devices. Immediately after setup, it is normal for some values to show 0 or for some charts to appear empty. Home Assistant needs time to collect and process energy data. It can take up to two hours before new data begins to appear.

After enough data has been collected, the dashboard will gradually populate with real-time power readings, energy usage, solar production and device statistics. Starting on the following day, the dashboard can display a complete day's worth of energy statistics.

Can ecoMain work as a Home Assistant energy monitor?

Yes. ecoMain can provide energy and power entities to Home Assistant, allowing you to configure grid import/export, solar production and individual devices in the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard.

Can ecoMain monitor solar PV in Home Assistant?

Yes. You can assign one or more ecoMain channels to solar PV production and add the corresponding energy and power entities to the Home Assistant Energy Dashboard.

Can I monitor an EV charger separately?

Yes. If the EV charger is connected through a monitored circuit, ecoMain can track its energy use as an individual device in Home Assistant. This is useful for home charging records, cost tracking and reimbursement scenarios.

Can I monitor a three-phase heat pump?

Yes. You can monitor each phase or circuit separately and create aggregated entities in the enecess integration so the heat pump appears as one device in the Energy Dashboard.

Does ecoMain require cloud access for Home Assistant?

No. ecoMain can be connected to Home Assistant using local discovery and local data access. enecess also provides a cloud app for users who prefer a ready-to-use app experience.

Can I start with only main circuit monitoring?

Yes. You can start with the main circuit and expand the system later by adding more monitored channels and optional ecoSub modules.

How many channels can the ecoMain system monitor?
